Tour Overview

The Western Australia countryside comes alive in spring with an array of over 3,000 species of wildflowers, many unique to the region due to the climatic conditions. Banksias, dryandras, grevilleas, cone flowers, hakeas, feather flowers, flame peas, kangaroo paws, coral vines and many varieties of orchids all burst forth. This display also coincides with an average daytime temperature of around 20 degrees – ideal for relaxed touring and exploring the countryside.

After familiarising ourselves with Perth we travel eastward to the welcoming town of Hyden with interesting artefacts of Australian history before journeying on to the goldmining town of Kalgoorlie, first established in the 1880s to service the gold prospectors. Heading south we head for the beautiful south coast and the towns of Esperance and Albany before driving inland again to the Stirling Range National Park and Bluff Knoll, situated 1,073m above sea level, with its own unique eco-system. Staying in the forest area in Pemberton, with the world's highest look-out tree, we also visit the wine growing area of Margaret River where the Indian Ocean meets the Southern Ocean before heading north along the coast back to Perth where it is also possible to extend your stay or maybe travel eastward by rail on the Indian Pacific train.

If you like relaxed touring, have a love of the outdoors and an interest in plants, this tour will be a worthwhile and memorable experience.

Moderate

This program includes placeswhich can only be explored on foot and where walking tours may be a little longer and not always on the flat. Accommodation may have some stairs and or have some rooms which may involve some walking to access.
All our programs naturally involve some walking in order to discover better the places visited and, although we arrange porterage where this is available, participants are expected to be able to handle their own bags. Our program leaders will always try to make as much of the program as possible available for those who find walking longer distances, uphill or down steps difficult but, in same places, this cannot always be avoided.
If you have any concerns at all about your level of fitness, please do not hesitate to talk to us and discuss further with the experts who know the particular demands of each program.
