Tour Overview

On this thrilling journey, we discover two distinct societies on the Korean Peninsula, very different in politics, yet similar in cultural traditions. Following the recent positive efforts in diplomacy between North Korea, USA and South Korea, now is the time to visit North Korea, a bastion of Korean culture and heritage before this ‘Hermit Kingdom’ changes forever. Come to witness living history and a friendly, welcoming people and its raw scenery, historic sites and incredibly genuine people.

Our incredible journey begins in Beijing where we enjoy a 3-night stopover visiting Beijing’s highlights before flying to Pyongyang, North Korea’s capital. This city shines bright, right through the many veils which keep the country in the darkness. The city is one of the most immaculate cities in the world, and it is kept that way because it acts as the public face of an entire country. First-time visitors are often stunned when they realise Pyongyang is such a bustling metropolis. We also visit Mt. Myohyang, one of the most celebrated mountains of North Korea and known to the locals as the “mysterious fragrant mountain” of the north east. We explore both sides of the Demilitarized Zone, or DMZ, one of the last relics of the Cold War.

Our journey continues with an in-depth visit to South Korea, the ‘Land of the Morning Calm’, a powerhouse of industrial output and one of the most progressive societies anywhere in the world. In modern Seoul, we explore its markets, ancient palaces and a Korean Folk Village. Across the country, we visit traditional villages, national parks, many UNESCO inscribed sites, beautiful coastal villages and spiritual temples with perhaps the highlight being a visit to Jeju Island, one of the New Seven Wonders of Nature. Our journey concludes with a high-speed train (KTX) to Seoul.

Moderate

This program includes placeswhich can only be explored on foot and where walking tours may be a little longer and not always on the flat. Accommodation may have some stairs and or have some rooms which may involve some walking to access.
All our programs naturally involve some walking in order to discover better the places visited and, although we arrange porterage where this is available, participants are expected to be able to handle their own bags. Our program leaders will always try to make as much of the program as possible available for those who find walking longer distances, uphill or down steps difficult but, in same places, this cannot always be avoided.
If you have any concerns at all about your level of fitness, please do not hesitate to talk to us and discuss further with the experts who know the particular demands of each program.
