Tour Overview

From the desert sands to the ultra-modern cities, lush oases to man- made islands, we encounter the Arabian Peninsula in all its traditions and contrasts. We hear tales from a thousand and one nights come to life on this intriguing journey from the enchanting Sultanate of Oman through to Dubai and Abu Dhabi in the UAE.

Home to numerous UNESCO World Heritage Sites, Oman is steeped in history. Our journey commences in the north, where the mountains rise straight out of the sea, giving rise to a fjordlike coastline. We next visit Muscat, Oman's confident, low-rise capital, home to the breath-taking Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque, wonderful Mutrah Souk, 16th century fortresses and the grandiose Royal Opera House.

Heading inland to the spectacular Wahiba Sands, a long and narrow strip of high dunes and woodlands located along an unspoilt coastline of eastern Oman, we travel through scenic mountain villages and visit Wadi Bani Khalid, one of Oman's most beautiful valleys. We also view the oasis city of Nizwa, once the ancient Omani capital, in an important agricultural region, where we visit the city's imposing Fort, as well as Jabreen Castle, high in the Jebel Akhdhar Mountains.

In Dubai, we learn about the city's amazing architecture, including, the world’s tallest building, the Burj Khalifa. We have the opportunity to enjoy a panoramic view of the city from the 124th floor. We also visit the dazzling gold souk, take a ride on a monorail, see the massive new Dubai Marina, and view the Palm Islands. In nearby Abu Dhabi, we visit the magnificent Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque.

Our 15-night program is designed to learn about traditional crafts, local cuisine, ancient and modern architecture, and sacred landmarks of the Arabian Peninsula.

This program includes places which can only be explored on foot and where walking tours may be a little longer and not always on the flat. Accommodation may have some stairs and or have some rooms which may involve some walking to access.
All our programs naturally involve some walking in order to discover better the places visited and, although we arrange porterage where this is available, participants are expected to be able to handle their own bags. Our program leaders will always try to make as much of the program as possible available for those who find walking longer distances, uphill or down steps difficult but, in same places, this cannot always be avoided.
If you have any concerns at all about your level of fitness, please do not hesitate to talk to us and discuss further with the experts who know the particular demands of each program.
